Review:
Christina Aguilera is a gifted singer plagued by mediocre material and an overproduced CD. The songs on her CD manage to stay afloat mainly due to her vocal quality, impressive for someone so young. Like most new pop singers, Aguilera proceeds to bow before the altar of Dianne Warren, the writer behind Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me" and LeAnn Rimes "How Do I Live". On "Turn To You", a ballad penned by Warren, Aguilera turns a rather ordinary-if not cliche-song into a vocal powerhouse. "What A Girl Wants" is a slightly jazzy, groovy number with Aguilera's soulful voice at full strength. Her big hit, "Genie In A Bottle" is rather a rather interesting song.
